3DExperts vs Your Alternatives

A straight comparison of 3DExperts against the three alternatives clients typically consider: local print shops, offshore BIM outsourcers and Western EU providers.

We'll also tell you when a competitor is the better choice — because the right fit matters more than the sale.

Use-Case Verdicts

Honest answers for six common scenarios — including the ones where we're not the right choice.

Renovation of an existing commercial building

3DExperts

Needs on-site scanning plus a BIM model in the formats used locally. Offshore providers cannot scan on site, large EU providers rarely know local permit practice, and print shops have no BIM capability.

Simple PLA prototype, 1–2 pcs, needed this week

Local shop

Fast turnaround, lowest price, no need for engineering support. A local print farm is the right choice for straightforward prototypes.

Heritage digitization for a regional museum

3DExperts

Object scanning, web and AR models and print-ready replicas — the workflow we used for the Ulcinj museum collection (3dkult.me).

High-volume BIM outsourcing for a generic project

Offshore provider

For pure volume with no regional specifics and no on-site scanning, offshore BIM firms are competitive at scale. We focus on projects where local knowledge matters.

Metal SLM parts, 10-unit series

3DExperts

Engineering-grade metal printing through our partner network, invoiced from Montenegro, with an engineering review before the build.

BIM for a public tender in the region

3DExperts

Needs openBIM/IFC delivery, a BIM execution plan that fits the tender, and often Scan-to-BIM of the existing building.

How we price

We're not the cheapest, and we're not the most expensive: engineering-grade output, regional knowledge, invoicing from Montenegro and direct contact with the people doing the work.

A cheap offshore quote can grow once you add review cycles across time zones, rework because the model does not match the local permit format, and a second site visit because conditions were not captured the first time.

Common Questions

Why not just use a local 3D print shop in Montenegro or Serbia?

Local print shops are great for simple PLA/PETG prototypes. Most are not set up for engineering-grade materials (SLS nylon, SLM metal, specialty resins), BIM deliverables, heritage documentation or Scan-to-BIM. If your project needs more than a physical object — coordination, documentation or a BIM model — a print farm cannot deliver it.

Why not outsource to an offshore BIM provider?

Offshore BIM outsourcing is priced for volume. You often lose direct contact with the modelers, review cycles cross time zones, and local regulations, coordinate systems and permit formats are unfamiliar. We model to the formats used in Montenegro and the region from the start.

Why not a major Western EU provider?

Large Central European providers are usually more expensive, and travel to Montenegro, Serbia or Bosnia adds cost and lead time. For projects in the Adria region, a team that knows the local building stock and permit practice is often the better fit.

How do your prices compare?

We position at '$$' — above local print farms, below large EU providers. Scan-to-BIM is priced by floor area and LOD, 3D printing per part from the online calculator, and BIM consulting per scope. Send us your project and we quote it within 1 business day.

Can you match the turnaround of a local print farm?

No — and we say so. Our 3D printing runs through a contracted partner network: production takes 10–20 working days plus shipping, in exchange for 40 industrial materials and parts up to 1,700 × 800 × 600 mm. For a quick PLA part tomorrow, a local shop is the right choice.
